World Class Treatment and Prevention of Childbirth Injuries

10 Year Retrospective

FISTULA - A film to promote better maternal health care globally.

Imagine a World…

In Sub-Saharan Africa the nearest health facility is often a two-day walk away, resulting in a 1 in 16 risk of dying from pregnancy or childbirth. This is the world where millions of women live – a world where childbirth injuries are far too common.

Prolonged obstructed labor in regions where C-section delivery is not possible result in childbirth injuries like obstetric fistula. Often, women are in labor for days and the babies are stillborn.

Internal damage causes grieving mothers to uncontrollably leak urine or feces, or both. Often rejected by their communities, they live in isolation.

But these injuries are preventable and treatable.

The Holistic Model of Care

Our vision is a world without childbirth injuries. The Maternal Health Fund supports world-renowned doctors, researchers, and hospitals. Because we work with the best surgeons we can treat women with cutting-edge, compassionate care to ensure all mothers can have safe births.
